We bet you’ve seen them on TV, and their job is the toughest of all. They cannot smile, laugh or display any expressions at all. Sometimes, tourists go out of their way to make them laugh with funny antics, but the guards have to make sure that they never even break into a smile, which of course takes a huge amount of self control. Also, the guards are often punished with extra duties or other consequences if they break protocol.

These scientists basically give themselves up for science. They not only voluntarily get trapped in a net with mosquitoes, they let the mosquitoes feed off their skin, knowing the consequences full well. You’d think these jobs are very high paid, but that’s actually not true since the research is part of a bigger project.

Usually, mosquitoes are trapped inside a net with the researcher so that they can be observed up close. The researcher offers up her or his leg so that the mosquito feeds, and then they observe the insect and also collect its samples to be studied later.
