Charlize Theron Is Not Good Enough For Hollywood Anymore. But How Did It Happen?

Charlize Theron might have an incredible resume - she has acted in some of the most successful films, and at one point of time, was one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. But times changed, and so did Charlize’s career. At 42 years old, it might be too late for her to revive her old charisma back. Moreover, she has earned some bad rep over the years, and that certainly hasn’t helped. So, why is Charlize Theron finding it so hard to survive in Hollywood? Let’s have a look.

1Box office failure

In the last decade, Charlize has not done a single film, which has been hailed a box office hit or has acquired critical acclaim. From Snow White and the Huntsman to Mad Max: Fury Road, Charlize is being too unconventional even for Hollywood, and that is not helping her situation. She has consecutively chosen poor roles, and films which are too ahead of their times. Charlize Theron has clearly not been getting roles which could use her potential fully.

2She is too old

She herself recently admitted that she is too old to play James Bond. But not just for the role of 007, she also can’t seem to pull off any other action roles either. Her stint in Atomic Blonde did her no favours, and since she doesn’t fit the fierce glam doll category anymore, Charlize is in a problematic point in her life. She could try out her luck in different kind of films, but by not doing so, she might be killing her career.

3She doesn’t really have a label

It’s true that Charlize Theron was once Hollywood’s most stunning woman, and she is still breathtaking, but she does not fit into any criterion anymore. Her luck with hard-hitting films like Dark Places and Mad Max have not helped her to carve a niche. She is too old to sustain a career as an action star, and she is too unconventional for playing a romantic main lead in other genre of films.

4She is no Julia Roberts

Charlize may have misread her popularity, and since she never really fit into a specific Hollywood box, it’s very hard for her fans to stick up to her. She is no doubt a great actor, but she could never make it as big as names like Julia Roberts or Angelina Jolie, who would be iconic even if they did not act in a movie for 2 or 3 years. In fact, Julia had once famously said that she doesn’t need films to make her famous. But things are very different with Charlize, as she still needs to prove her mettle, and even after 20 years in Hollywood, she still isn’t considered an A-lister.

5No to botox/surgery

While her Hollywood contemporaries, like Nicole Kidman, Blake Lively and Renee Zellweger have said yes to botox and have had multiple surgeries to keep up youthful appearances, Charlize has chosen to embrace her age and has said no to cosmetic surgery. While that is very brave, she does need to remember that she is in a cutthroat business, and she can be replaced by younger actresses with better looks.
