11The main hassle

The worst part about getting seriously sunburnt is how messed up your legs get. Also, people avoid wearing shorts or skirts until their burns have totally healed, which might take a week. And wearing full-length pants for an entire summer week is a special kind of torture.

12Only for night outs?

Ideally, if you live in a really hot state you should avoid wearing ripped denims on a summer day. It is an unfair demand, but you’ve seen what happens. Reserve your ripped denims for night-outs or at least for after-school soirees when the sun isn’t as harsh and you know the burns are going to get milder.

13Extra packing

If you have to head to an after-work party, and you want to give the formal trousers a miss, and yet you can’t wear ripped denims for the sun, there’s something you can do. Try going for lighter denims so that you can carry it to work. You can change into those for the after-work event. Alternatively, try keeping a nice pair of ripped denims at your work locker, in case you make plans and want to go casual.

14Better alternatives

Denim cut-offs are a better alternative anyway, in case you want a stellar casual look. But you can also opt for cotton trousers, not ripped of course, because nothing beats summer like light fabrics. Or try baggy canvas pants, which are surprisingly comfortable.

15If you must do denim

If you’re really big on denim, go for denim skirts, or boyfriend denims. But if you must wear ripped jeans, go for baggy ripped jeans, which makes more room for your skin to hide, and it protects you from direct sun exposure.
