Renuka’s father was soon unable to provide for his son and enrolled the boy in an ashram where he would complete his education as well as learn Sanskrit and the scriptures such as the Rig Veda. Unfortunately for those like Renuka, life at the ashram was tough where boys like him were given just two frugal meals per day. Once at 8am and again at 8 pm. As a result they always went hungry.

The only silver lining in the boy’s lives was when they were made to go to sacred public events, household prayer occasions and marriages where they could eat to their hearts content. Food was abundant in such grand occasions which is why Renuka and his friends would repeated run errands for the seniors to ensure they would take them along too.

Because of Renuka’s lack of nourishment and having to do several chores for seniors at the ashram, he failed his board exams. That wasn’t the only tragedy. Renuka’s father passed away even as his elder brother left him. Renuka was saddled with the responsibility of his mother and sister at that young age. he couldn’t have been more than 14.

If you thought that would break him, no it didn’t. Renuka accepted his responsibilities like a man. He vowed to continue struggling despite of the adversities in life. He dealt with his failures and depression with a strength brought upon by his commitment to achieve something in life. He would never back down.
