The main issue here is the fear. The villagers are not running to the hospital because they understand the science behind it and want better medicine, but based on a superstition. And this superstition is so embedded in their lives that they obviously don’t have normal lives anymore.

The most ridiculous thing about this whole scenario is that the myth of this curse has survived for 400 years, and people’s faith is as strong as ever. The amount of time passed did nothing to cure their fear or make them think about the science behind it or question their beliefs.

It is important to remember that the curse is thought to have come from the gods, and not some mythical individual or witch. Which is why the villagers take it really seriously. Since it is a religious village, a curse which comes from gods themselves obviously has a very strong impact on them.
One might ask that why the government or the NGOs don’t do anything about the situation. If you think about it, the fear actually has the people making the right medical decisions and going to hospitals, which they probably wouldn’t do in usual cases. The authorities are probably aware of this part of the problem.

Interestingly, this little Indian village made major news as people just wouldn’t believe that a village full of people would actually alter their lives based on a 400-year-old curse. Something that they have only heard about and have no evidence or directs signs.
