A village in India, called Sanka Shyam Ji village has not seen the birth of a child in the last four centuries.
The villagers believe that if a woman in the village gives birth, the child or the mother will die or will go suffer some sort of deformity. There is no written code or laws, but this superstition is just based on the fear of a curse. So, what is really going on with this village? Let’s find out.

The Sanka Shyam Ji village is located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated 130 km from the capital city of Bhopal. Interestingly, Madhya Pradesh is one of the most historically significant Indian states and houses some stellar ancient ruins. But that still doesn’t explain why the women in the village are not allowed to give birth there.

If reports are to be believed there are no laws or codes or even a scientific explanation behind this practice. The elders in the village do not let the women give birth in the village as they fear that some evil will befall the village. Plus, the women are also scared about themselves and their future child, if the curse actually comes true.

According to myths, four hundred years ago, the villagers were trying to build a temple in this area when they got distracted by a woman, who was working in the farm. This angered the gods and they put the curse on the village, which the villagers still abide by.

This is not to say that the women in the women are childless. Women do give birth but not in the village or in the surrounding areas. Usually a woman is taken to the hospital outside the village. Plus, a room has been built outside the village solely for this purpose where women are taken.

The village elder said that ninety percent of deliveries take place in hospitals. The women are usually taken there or the emergency room that is built outside the village parameters, said the village sarpanch. A sarpanch is basically the head of the village who makes all the major decisions.
