4Starfish will die if they are on dry land for longer period of time

Starfish will die if they are on dry land for a longer period of time. As far as the breathing of starfishes are concerned, they respirate through the gills on their underside and they take oxygen from water to respirate. As they use gills, it is clear that if they are stranded on land for longer period of time, they will suffocate and die.

They do this by incorporating most of their vital organs in their arms.
