Jon Newman and his wife have been married for 18 years. Both had exchanged the vows of been there for one another ‘in sickness and in health’. After Marci, his wife, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, Jon has been with her through all the doctor appointments, surgeries and treatment. However, with her latest surgery, she had to endure hours of radioactive iodine treatment in order to destroy the cancer cells in her thyroid glands.
This meant that doctors isolated her in a room in her house, in order to keep the other members of the family safe. She has to stay her room with doors closed, but Jon doesn’t want to make her feel alone. "On the first day my dad sat outside in the backyard and talked to her through the window," their daughter Mackenna said.

However, since talking through the backyard became very difficult, Jon has set up his desk outside her room and talks constantly to her. He had his morning coffee outside the room and read her news from the papers. Mackenna wrote, “My mom has to stay in her room in isolation for her cancer radiation so my dad set up a desk at her door to keep her company and I'm crying," she wrote.
The tweet went viral and was shared over 10,000 times. She received many supportive messages on Twitter and other mediums. “I just thought it was sweet because they are so in love. The amount of love I’ve received is crazy and I didn’t expect any of it, but I’m so grateful,” Makenna said.
