Panthers are extremely rare, which is one of the most worrisome truths about them. This is because of their genes and the fact that these beautiful animals and their homes have become more at risk in recent years. Many human actions, like cutting down trees, make it much harder for these big cats to find places to live. Also, hunting panthers for their fur or other things has led to a big drop in their numbers, as well as the number of normal leopards and jaguars in the world. Panthers are so rare and hard to find now that people rarely see them. Because of this, people call them “forest ghosts.” Even though they still exist, panthers are now considered to be on the verge of extinction.

A very large number of people misunderstand even the simplest facts about panthers. Most people think of panthers as a completely different kind of big cat. On the other hand, panthers are usually leopards or jaguars, depending on where they live. This is because panthers are different from other species in the Panthera genus, like lions, leopards, jaguars, and tigers, since they have a darker color (melanin). Melanism is the process by which the skin makes a pigment that is usually dark in color. So, this variety of colors usually means the cat is black or dark brown.

If they could, black panthers would thank evolution for making them darker. Darker members of the leopard or jaguar family have a greater chance of survival. Their dark coats allow them to hide from predators, live long, and have more offspring because they are harder to spot. This is especially true in natural settings where melanism is more common, such as in areas with a lot of trees and little light. So, melanin is passed down in the Panthera Onca through a strong gene that is very strong (a panther that evolved from the species of jaguar). This means that black jaguars can have cubs that are either completely black or have spots, but regular jaguars can only have spotted cubs.
