A man who thought he could talk to bears and his girlfriend were killed by one while their camera was left recording the entire incident. The man who would try to befriend wild grizzlies had been on many camping trips out in the wild. However, this particular trip was his last. Not only did he lose his life, but his girlfriend lost her life, too, in the terrifying ordeal. Even scarier was the fact that the couple’s last moments were caught on camera without their knowledge. The entire scene was recorded, and you can hear their spin-chilling screams and cries while the bear kills the man first and then the woman. Its footage was used to make “Grizzly Man,” a film that won several awards.

Timothy Treadwell grew up on Long Island, New York, and always wanted to be an actor. He auditioned for Cheers, but Woody Harrelson got the part instead, making Tim disillusioned with his life. He became an alcoholic and abused drugs like heroin. However, he eventually got sober and stayed that way. He found his purpose in life- to befriend Alaska’s wild bears!
Timothy Treadwell thought he was friends with the bears and would fly to Alaska every summer for 13 years and camp with wild grizzlies for a few months. The 46-year-old former heroin addict talked to the bears, played with them, and even touched them. He gave them names and thought of them as his friends. Even though Timothy’s friends and family told him it was dangerous, he insisted he was one with the bears and that they were just misunderstood.

But on a stormy October evening, just hours before he was to be picked up by seaplane to go home for the winter, he was killed in front of his girlfriend, 37-year-old Amie Huguenard, who was killed soon after, by the same bear. The bear didn’t just kill them; he also made sure to turn them into a multi-course, gory buffet. What a strange thing that a man who spent his whole life trying to protect bears was killed by one.

Willy Fulton knew what had happened as soon as he landed at Katmai National Park to pick up the two people, just 24 hours after he had last talked to Timothy. Instead of finding the couple waiting on the shore, they found an eerie silence and the “meanest-looking bear” sitting on a pile of Tim’s and his girlfriend’s remains. Its snout was covered in blood as it feasted on what was left of Timothy’s broken ribcage. The dead body of Amie was spread out near the tent.

Tim and Aime’s tents were torn and broken, and their evening snack was open but untouched. The shoes were neatly arranged by the door. A 3-foot-high mound of grass, mud, sticks, and bones was outside the tent. Ranger Joe Ellis saw fingers and an arm sticking out of the horrible pile. Nearby, they found a small piece of Tim’s spine and what was left of his head after it had been eaten. His wristwatch was still on his right arm when it was found.
