The tourists took a dip in the spring Yeyemu and once they came out if it, they realized that their eyelashes have been frost over. There is local journalist with the name of Elena Pototskaya who was surprised and annoyed at the Chinese tourists’ decision to swim in spring Yeyemu. He wrote, “Today at the Pole of Cold in Oymyakon – in a 65-degree frost – Chinese tourists swim in the ice-free spring Yeyemu. This does not freeze even in severe frosts in Oymyakon. Horror – us locals are afraid to go out in such a cold. And here… the tourists are swimming …”

5A public thermometer broke at - 62 degrees Celsius

In order to let the tourists know about the present temperature, the locals of the village Oymyakon had installed a thermometer. That thermometer broke at -62 degrees Celsius. It suggests that the residents’ recording of -67 degrees Celsius might well be true. “It broke because it was too cold,” reported The Siberian Times.
