On the 2nd of June 1953, the world was witness to a grand spectacle in Great Britain. It was the spectacular coronation of Queen Elizabeth the II. The lavish affair was rivaled only by the next grand celebration in the Royal household which was the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.
1 What was the secret in the queen’s gown?
The most intriguing aspect of the entire spectacle was her coronation gown designed by Norman Hartnell. The masterpiece took 8 months to complete. It incorporated tributes to all the countries included in the United Kingdom as well as other states belonging to the commonwealth. But!! The Queen’s gown contained a secret which even she did not know about.

2 Queen Elizabeth was 25 years old when she was crowned Queen of England
The Queen’s coronation was arranged taking into account predictions by weathermen stating that the day would feature excellent weather. But not to disappoint people with the perfect example fop British weather, it rained!! Elizabeth was just 25 years old and 16 months after the death of her father King George the VI, she was crowned queen of England.

3 The coronation gown design featured national several symbols
The elaborate Gown was full of floral emblems which included the English Tudor Rose, The Scottish Thistle, The Welsh Leek, The Irish Shamrock. The Canadian Maple leaf. The Australian Wattle, New Zealand fern, the South African Protea,The Indian and Ceylon lotus and Pakistan’s crops. But!! There was an additional symbol sewn into the designs. Hartnell made sure the Queen’s gown contained a secret which was very interesting to know.
