Despite these benefits, you should also remember these things when you try Earthing. If you are not used to walking barefoot, your feet may not be as strong, and you could get hurt. Here are some tips for getting used to earthing:

  • At first, start building up your strength by practising walking barefoot for short durations and gradually increasing the duration.
  • Do ankle exercises to improve your balance.
  • Try exercises that you can do without wearing shoes, like yoga or pilates.
  • Make sure the ground is flat and free of anything that could cut or pierce your feet.
  • Wear a minimalist shoe, like one without a synthetic rubber sole, so your feet can still feel the ground while being protected.
  • First, try it indoors.

When walking around barefoot outside, always pay attention to the terrain. Your path may be rocky and could cut your feet. Other areas may have broken glass or nails, and wet spots could make you trip and fall. Also, surfaces like asphalt, wood, rubber, plastic, vinyl, tar, and tarmac do not help you feel grounded. Grounding can only be done with sand, grass, soil, concrete, or ceramic tile. Basically, there are benefits to any natural surface.

  • Make sure to wash your feet well after completing your Earthing session because they could’ve been exposed to a lot of bacteria.
  • f you have diabetes, it’s very important to take extra care.
  • Make sure to wash your feet and inspect them carefully before moisturizing them.

Even though more research needs to be done before doctors can “prescribe” earthing as a treatment, it is free. You don’t need a doctor’s permission to try it. Besides, it feels good too!
