In the Russian Federal region of Chukotka, there is an area in the wilderness that has been blacked out by Google Maps. In fact fake satellite imagery seems to have been pasted over the region to fool people in thinking it is normal. The same fake job can be seen on Bing where mountains suddenly appear as flat forest. The area is alleged to be a Russian HAARP site which is a testing facility of ICBM’s or it could also be a huge gold mine.

7Sandy Island

Sandy Island off the Australian coast in the Coral Sea was discovered by Captain Cook. It always featured on maps in the 1800 but suddenly disappeared. Google maps had earlier blacked out the island’s location with a black box and Bing has removed it altogether. A research ship attempted to find the island with earlier coordinates but was unsuccessful. What exactly did Captain Cook find?? He wasn’t hallucinating, that’s for sure. So the question is whether the island is actually there and kept a secret or really disappeared.

8Broken Arrow, Greenland

The term a broken arrow is used by the US military to denote a damaged or fallen nuclear weapon. It is also the name of a site in Greenland that has been highly pixilated by Google Maps. During the Cold War, the US airforce had carried out a classified and secret operation between 1960 – 1968 that was referred to as “The Chrome Dome”. The operation involved B-52 stratofortess strategic bomber aircraft armed with thermo- nuclear weapons flying continuous sorties along air routes on the Russian height of the Cold War. Accidents involving the B-52 bombers ended the program in 1968. It was presumed that one such accident involving a nuclear weapon caused several military workers to suffer radiation poisoning. The reason for Google pixelating the area is not known.

There is a black strip covering a long rectangular plot in the Baker Lake area in Nunavut Canada. Theorists have implied that it conceals extraterrestrial beacons placed on the strip, something that no government will want anyone to see.

10Szazhalombatta Oil Refinery, Hungary

This is an oil facility of Hungary that has asked to be marked green while all buildings and grounds surrounding the area have been deleted. The reason is still unknown. There is a bizarre rumor that the green colored block protects a grassy field but what’s the point of that unless there is something hidden beneath the grass.
