In a world of prejudice, the one mistake we make is imparting such a vice onto our kids without us knowing it. Autism is one such condition that is not exactly met with acceptance even in schools where even kids tends to avoid an autistic child. It is high time the world changed its attitude to at least understand what an autistic child goes through in terms of daily life.
An autistic child’s insecurity and fears of not being accepted can be summed up with just one autistic boy’s poem that has gone viral on the net.
1The task
Benjamin Giroux is all of 10 years old. As part of a school assignment he was given a task to write a poem titled “I am”. Instead of being intimidated by the thought of writing a poem, he seized the opportunity to tell the world how he felt.

2Benjamin has had his fair share of peer problems
As an autistic, Benjamin faces a lot of peer pressure at school. His life has never been normal and what is a usual day for most children ends up being a challenge for young Benjamin. Adjustment and bonding could well be two of his biggest issues as a young child suffering from autism.
Benjamin obviously yearns for acceptance and the autistic boy’s poem is simple and extremely powerful in the message it portrays.
