An Imgur user that goes by the handle Hoptail decided to go for a really costly meal at America’s second most expensive restaurant. It cost her $ 600 and she documented her entire meal with photographs graciously sharing her experience on Imgur so that viewers could have a first hand virtual experience of what such a meal would be like.
Hoptail is a foodie and has done things like this in the past. She does not regret spending $600 saying: “For those of you with the disparaging comments about this endeavor not being worth it, or that I shouldn’t be spending my money on stuff like this if I’m not financially well-to-do. It’s my money, and this is what I like.”

She says she had gone to San Francisco for work and whenever she travels, she loves visiting restaurants. Although she isn’t well off being a college student, she is a foodie and loves new food experiences. Her passion as a foodie makes her save up money so that she can pay for food at the best restaurants in the country.
Hoptail took photographs of each and every item she relished at the Saison which is the costliest restaurant in San Francisco and the second most expensive in America. “Firstly, I don’t have Instagram, and secondly, if I’m going to spend that much on a meal, I want to be able to appreciate it later and share it with people who would find it interesting,” She said. Who wouldn’t want to remember and share the $600 meal eaten at a three Michelin star restaurant? For that price, she got a 22-course meal.

The very first item that she got served was a cup of teas infused wh9ch impressed her a lot. It was absolutely delightful she said and it was the most heavenly tea she had ever tasted. Although it was to start off her meal, she requested the staff to keep serving her refills throughout her meal. The tea contained a bushel consisting of chamomile, Yarrow, Douglas fir, lemon balm, anise and hyssop all freshly handpicked from the restaurant Farm and infused in Meyer lemon water.

The greens were excellent she said, “Can’t tell you how buttery and melty this all was.” The caviar was a specific type that you could only get there. The items though different in texture all came together smoothly.

Hoptail described the sashimi as “amazing” and the squid as 'most tender, buttery squid you've ever had in your life,' She says she was blown away by the texture which she joked almost put her in tears at the perfection of the raw fish. The second preparation of the fish came glazed with a light soy sauce, heirloom tomatoes and deep fried flowers.

The second called geoduck was a species of clam which didn’t impress her at all. She said it wasn’t too good and it was just kind of chewy. In fact, she calls it freaky in her post on Imgur. The marinade was too strong and hid the taste of the meat. While taking a photo she explained that the clam had three sections, the siphon which is the sticky outer part, the abductor muscle and the internal bit.

This she said was the best part of the meal. The fresh sea urchin on grilled bread was basted in a delicate sauce made from offcuts of the bread. Hoptail says “I’ve never had sea urchin before, it was SUPER creamy like the butter of the sea. So amazingly fresh and the sauce in the bread was incredible”.

The next course she also enjoyed which was a radish made with clarified butter. Beneath it was a radish jelly reduction, radish tops and small marinated radish cubes. She said it was super fresh and it was a beautiful transition from the rich flavor of the previous dish.

On the left was something similar to agedashi tofu except that it was torn roasted pumpkin and topped with, believe it or not, octopus flakes. This she says was super nice.

This sounds exquisite where she says the biscuits tasted like pancakes. The dish was delicious but she struggled to enjoy it because of the antelope meat. Obviously, not everyone is used to eating antelope even once in a while. She says the dish was well-seasoned and had the texture of a cross between venison and beef and was perfectly medium-rare. It was a melt-in-your-mouth experience. The antelope was sourced from a ranch in Texas but still, that wasn’t enough for her to enjoy it as she says “it did nothing to abate my Lion King flashbacks and my childhood sentimentality got in the way of really being able to enjoy this one.'’

Again!! Horrified again and she says “God make it stop.” But she also says 'It was actually really nice, but I needed to move on from Bambi's relatives.'

While photographing the ice cream she says “don’t ask me the science behind how one smokes ice cream - but it's got something to do incorporating exotic wood embers into the cream.” The ice cream came with salted caramel that she describes as life-changing. The ice cream features candied toppings like peanuts, walnuts, pine nibs and cacao nibs.

There was another dessert served soon after which was Orange buttermilk creamsicle. This dessert she says was super creamy and had candied oranges at the bottom of it.

By now she was stuffed she said but she kept going. Liquor fans would have loved this but Hoptail says she doesn’t like brandy.

The Snickers bar was an item off the menu and she says it comes if you befriend the waiter and if you love desserts. The Saison snicker bar was made from dark chocolate and nut brownie base. It had a salted caramel center and chocolate ganache. The bar was topped with 24-carat gold.

After her meal, Hoptail was given a “swag bag” which was filled with assorted stuff from the restaurant including a fancy wax sealed copy of the menu. Hoptail says that this entire experience was an amazing one. The $ 600 meal was 'Honestly this was an awesome experience and, for me, well worth the money. The staff were absolutely amazing.' The meal for one is $600 but for two without wine would cost $1000. One cannot pick and chose the courses as the menu is set based on seasonal fare. The restaurant does not allow tips but there is a gratuity added to the bill.
