By AK, 27 July 2019

Yeast infections are often associated with women, but did you know that men can also get yeast infections? Now you know. What is a yeast infection? It is an infection that is caused by a fungus known as Candida. Typically, the body produces the candida yeast, but when it becomes in excess, that’s when the yeast infection crops up. Having sex with, unprotected sex for that matter is one way that a man can get a yeast infection. Other causes of yeast infections in men include poor hygiene, hormonal imbalance, wearing tight clothes, being obese, and being uncircumcised.

The symptoms of yeast infections in men are in a way similar to those that occur in women. Some of the signs of a yeast infection in men include the feeling itchy on the penis, a burning sensation when they urinate, whitish patches, redness, and odor to mention a few. These symptoms are quite uncomfortable. However, yeast infection is curable. The infection can either be treated by natural remedies or by medication.

Natural treatments for yeast infections in men

Some of the natural home remedies that you may use to treat male yeast infection include;

3Tee tree oil

Tee tree oil is known for its ability to treat several infections, yeast infection being one of them. Tee tree oil contains antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, and antiprotozoal properties, which in turn makes it an essential oil for killing any bacteria, viruses, or fungus that develop in the body. The antifungal property of the tee tree oil helps explicitly to treat the yeast infection, and it is best applied directly to the infected area. However, since tee tree oil is potent, it is best if you dilute it with other oils such as coconut oil or olive oil.

4Coconut oil

Similar to tee tree oil, coconut oil also has antifungal properties. Studies have shown that coconut oil is highly effective in fighting Candida albicans. For more effective treatment, it is best if you use pure coconut oil. The coconut oil should be applied directly to the penis.

5ACV ( Apple cider Vinegar)

Another way to treat male yeast infections include applying apple cider vinegar to the penis. It contains anti-fungal properties which are essential for fighting the candida that causes the yeast infection. However, since ACV is acidic, it is best to dilute it with water before application or before taking an ACV bath.

Natural remedies have been known to be very useful, but this is dependent on yeast infection severity.

6Antifungal medication

One of the best antifungal medicines used to treat a male yeast infection is the fluconazole. The fluconazole is a tablet that is often bought over the counter after proper diagnosis. Besides, there are also other antifungal creams, which include econazole, miconazole, and clotrimazole, which are also useful in treating yeast infections.
