She was feeling conflicted from inside as this could be seen as a failure of a single mother and she was scared in the way her son behaved. She was also thinking if it was her fault or if it was just one of the many phases a teenager goes through.
However, amidst her crying, she heard her son also crying in his second-floor room. He also felt guilty at what happened in a moment of his anger and during the heated conversation with her mother. However, Kathleen knew that at this moment her son needed her and her maternal instincts led her upstairs to meet her son for reconciliation.

In her blog, she wrote, “ that small, fragile soul needs you right now. He needs your very best. Your biggest compassion. Your most gentle and firm mama love and reassurance. More deep breaths. Go, Mama.” She let her son knew she was at the door of his room and she knocked at the door.
A teary-eyed, teenage boy poked her head out and said “Mama, I’ll never do it again. I am so sorry.” This was something they both had to do and after that, the mother and son embraced each other. This was the moment when she realized that she did the right thing in not scolding him further and that he needed her right now.
