This is Why You Should Walk Barefoot in Natural Places

We see kids walking barefoot on natural spaces such as grass, sand, soil etc. This is actually quite beneficial for our health. Also known as “Earthing,” and “grounding,” walking barefoot has been researched extensively and the results are astounding. When both our feet are placed on the bare surface of the earth, it leads to our well-being in the mind, body and soul.

1Here is why you should walk barefoot

Some couple of years ago, a study was published in the Journal Of Environmental and Public health about Earthing. The study focused on how earthing can help in treating various degenerative diseases that are chronic.

2Findings of the study: Earthing

The study proved that “a simple contact of the feet with the earth’s surface can help treat issues such as pain, ANS dysfunction, poor sleep, hypercoagulable blood, inflammation, disturbed HRV, and many other health issues, including cardiovascular diseases. It was also found that earthing along with clean air, sunshine, exercise and good food can lead to the well-being of the human body and mind. A different study found that during exercise earthing affects the metabolism of the proteins which leads to a positive balance of the nitrogen. It was also found that earthing of the human body enhances facial blood flow regulation. Earthing is also said to reduce blood viscosity which leads to cardiovascular diseases. Yet another study found that earthing may be the basic factor that regulates the nervous and endocrine system.

3Grounding

Grounding makes you feel so much better almost immediately. Do you know why? A review by Journal Of inflammation Research has shown that grounding can lower or prevent the signs of inflammation that have been caused due to injury, heat, pain, redness, or swelling. The study tried to prove that connecting the body to the earth, causes free electrons from the earth to spread into the body thereby creating the effect of antioxidants. Grounding is also said to reduce aging considerably. It helps normalize cortisol and diurnal rhythm which is a stress hormone.

4How does one go about Earthing and Grounding?

As it is, greenery or nature is the most sought after for unwinding from the humdrum and stress of life. Even if you spend time in such surroundings, you will feel good immediately. But when you walk barefoot, it will be an added advantage for your health issues. We mostly walk around in shoes that are made of plastic or rubber. These prevent your feet from getting grounded. When you use shoes that have soles made of leather you can easily get grounded.

Everything else kept aside, the moment your bare feet touch the ground, the sudden “Aha” escapes your lips and you begin to feel good. Your mood improves as does your thinking. Sometimes, solutions to pressing problems arrive unexpectedly in such moments. The calm and serene feeling enhances your well-being as stress and pent-up emotions melt away. Once you get the hang of walking barefoot, you will never let go of it. Of course, you must choose a clean place to do this.
