5Try a different approach

One can try the approach of telling the child that you both will do it but later like “Of course, we’ll play, but let’s get some sleep first.” If it is feeding time and you need to stop the game, give the suggestion of feeding the toy first. If your child is in the process of building something, you can tell him “Leave your building set and let’s go eat.” Tell him that his building team needs their lunch break too.

To get the child to do what you want, always suggest an alternative like asking them if they would be willing to pick up their cars or soldiers first. But this tactic only works temporarily and sooner or later, the child may end up refusing both once they reach a certain age.

6Manage your child’s temper tantrums

To prevent a child throwing a tantrum, you can try shifting their attention to something else. Invent a calming routine like a nursery rhyme, game or a fairytale. A mom can gently blow on the tears of the child to dry it or you can give them magic water to calm them.

7Ignore tantrums

When they are constantly throwing tantrums, ignore them especially if unsuccessful after trying all methods to calm them down. Leave them alone to cry a little or ignore it when they resort to screaming. However, never scold or lock them up in their room alone. Share your feeling with the child by saying things like “I think you just want to cry right now... When you’re done, we’ll do something fun.”

8Managing a picky eater

Everyone needs food including a human so if you forget to feed your newborn you will be warned with loud screams. A child always knows best when they need to feed. For toddlers and growing children, don’t force or persuade them to eat their food because appetite is always stimulated with positive emotions.

Include your child in the cooking process and let them try or suggest different ingredients and choose products while shopping. This will stop all problems in eating. If you give your child more food than what is needed, ask yourself why would you do that? Are you playing out the stereotyped mother of the past or are you afraid your child will remain hungry. Children will eat when they feel hungry and forcing food on a child isn’t good parenting.
