Winning lottery is dream of the people who struggle with poverty in life. It will be quite a solace for people to win a huge amount of money through lottery. The thought of having enough money in your bank account, purchasing any car or house of your choice and being able to take your loved ones on an exotic vacation is something we all die for. The feeling is great when you know that you no longer have to worry for outstanding bills or rent or the knowledge that you no longer need to work for a day.
But, those feelings are mostly short-lived for lottery winner as they struggle to keep up with lottery amount. Same happened with Marie Holmes who hails from North Carolina. Holmes was ecstatic and on cloud nine after winning a hefty amount through the Powerball lottery. She thought that her days of poverty and struggles got over. She was under impression that the huge weight has forever gone from her shoulder.

However, Holmes’ happiness was short-lived as someone whom she had trust started threatening her to take all those money away from her. The mom of four trusted a pastor named Kevin Matthews after she won lottery but he wanted to sabotage her chances of escaping the financial worries. That was a huge setback for Holmes which disrupted her joy of winning the lottery.

When Holmes won huge amount of money via lottery, she was working at different jobs and was really struggling to pay off her bills. But, as she won the huge amount of money through lottery, she could not believe her luck. She won $188 million on the North Carolina Powerball lottery in February 2015. After getting $127 million lump sum, per Inquisitr, she thought gone are the day when she used to worry about paying bills.

Soon, Holmes got a lesson of life that the more money you have, the more problems you have. She was stabbed in her back by a friendly pastor. Kevin Matthews was a local pastor who imparted counselling sessions to Holmes after she won the money through lottery. Holmes trusted that pastor fully. They both came up with a plan to purchase a plot of land. They had plans that the land will be used to build a new retreat center.

Holmes gave an eye-watering $700,000 for the purchase of the land, but Matthews was looking to withdraw more money from her. Matthews claimed that Holmes had committed to give double the amount that she had given. So, he decided to sue her. “The bottom line… I just want her to do what she said she was going to do. I want peace and to do what God told me to do. I want her to do what she said she was going to do. I really feel like a warrior for Christ and people need to be accountable," said Matthews.

Matthews was very particular about what he thought. He successfully sued Holmes for $10 million after she denied to pay him the amount of $1.5 million which he wanted. Matthews maintained that Holmes had agreed to pay $1.5 million. Irrespective of the fact that big amount of money changes the intention of many people, Matthews said that he went through a lot of mental stress.

Matthews said about the trial that his doctors increased his anti-depression medication after they thought that the case was having lasting impact on him. “Because of the emotional distress and mental stress, they put me through, I had to start taking more medicine for anxiety and depression due to this situation,” Matthews said. However, the pastor got a lot of negative reaction from the people. One of the person wrote on Twitter that Pastor Kevin Matthews is the devil in disguise.

Holmes also struggled with another problem as she had to pay a staggering $21 million to bail her partner Lamar McDow out of jail. McDow was earlier arrested on suspicion of being a drug dealer. The claim was vehemently denied by the couple. “We are a couple, and I am the father of her youngest child. This is what people do for each other. She has the money and she can do what she wants with it. If I had that money then I would do the same for her. People are just jealous because of how much she won and people want to see me locked in jail,” McDow said after being released.

However, Holmes got all the respite in the end courtesy Iyanla Vanzant who hosts the show, Fix My Life. When she heard about the woes of Holmes, she decided to help her out. “It is my intention to show Marie that hers is not a problem of wealth. It is a problem of maturity, of self-respect and of dignity," said Vanzant. Holmes finally got a much needed respite in Iyanla Vanzant. She started to recover from the situation. Finally, as she got relief, we really hope that Holmes’ struggles will now come to an end and she can start relishing the newfound wealth that she won through lottery.
