The way we sleep has a big impact on our health. Many sleeping positions can cause us problems, but on the other hand, sometimes, sleeping in a certain position may also help you in getting rid of some health issues as well. Though it depends on individual choices on how you sleep, but here are 7 ailments that can be treated in sleeping in certain positions.

1 Heart Burn

Heart burn is a condition in which the acid in the stomach is thrown back into the esophagus. This makes a person highly uneasy and also causes damage to the food pipe. Also sleeping in the wrong position causes this to happen frequently and can further make a person insomniac and indigestion.

It is better for a person suffering from acid reflux is on an incline, which keeps the acid in the stomach itself. Also try to sleep on your left, to decrease the possibility of heart burn.

2 Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common problem for sleepers with bad sleeping positions. Better to use a proper pillow that supports the shape of the neck. Try to sleep on the sides to relieve the pressure in the neck and pain in the neck won’t be an issue any more. Also roll up a small towel under the neck to support it, if you sleep on your back.

3 Pain in the back

Pain in the back can be due to many reasons and wrong sleeping position is one of those reasons. Sleeping in correct position can be the reasons for making the pain go away. You need to put a pillow under your knees to give support to your spine. If you sleep on the abdomen, place a pillow under your lower abdomen.

4 Shoulder pain

One of the prime reasons for shoulder pain is ironically, sleeping on the shoulder. In order to get relief from the pain in the shoulder, try hugging a pillow while sleeping or put a pillow underneath the injured shoulder to alleviate the pain.

5 Headaches

Headaches are also caused by bad sleeping positions. If your head is not aligned properly, it can cause many ailments and you can even twist the neck by sleeping improperly. To avoid that, either sleep on the back or buy a neck supporter in order to avoid the pain.

6 Digestion

Indigestion can easily prove to be hazardous to your sleeping schedule as well. However, if you get to sleep on the left side, you can get rid of the indigestion and sleep peacefully. This is because stomach is situated on the left side and gravity helps in boosting the digestive process and you can sleep soundly.

7 PMS issues

For women, PMS can be extremely uncomfortable during sleep and can cause interruptions in sleeping process. In order to get some relief from the pain, try sleeping in the fetal position as it takes the pressure of the abdomen muscles. Also put some pillows under the knees can help with the pain.
