Those who have been in pain for a long time want to have a good time when in the company of others. So they try to make people laugh and spread happiness. This lightens their suffering and gives them satisfaction of spreading happiness. It also relaxes them in their stressful lives. People who laugh in pain cannot see anyone sad in their company as they know the physical, mental and emotional side effects of being sad. They are not very vocal about their suffering as they have accepted it as a part of their life.

When you see someone laughing and making others laugh you may think that they live a stress-free life without any problems. But you may be wrong. If you study their lives you will find enough issues that would have mentally, physically and emotionally broken them and lead them to depression. But it’s their positive attitude towards life and believe that nothing is permanent keeps them smiling.

People who laugh in pain have a deeper level of understanding. When someone really tries to hurt them they understand what’s going within that person and why they are behaving in a negative way. They even try to sort out the problem so that the hatred vanishes. They do not reciprocate hatred with hatred for they know that hatred harms the bearer more. And people who laugh in pain will not act in a way that increases their sufferings. So they choose to forgive and forget but this does not mean that they are not hurt.

Suffering produces either bitterness or maturity. ‘Maturity is the ability to think, speak and act your feeling within the bounds of dignity. The measure of your maturity is how spiritual you become during the midst of your frustration’ as said by American poet Samuel Ullman. And people who choose to laugh even while they are suffering are matured ones. If we choose to begrudge problems then they bring in bitterness in us and we miss the vital part in our progression of maturity. Staying happy in midst of suffering is a sign of true maturity.
