School Teacher Uses a Gross Viral Experiment to Teach Kids a great lesson

By Andrew Alpin, 14 September 2017

It’s not an easy task to get school children to like science. It is even more difficult to get them to practice good hygiene but one innovative teacher has actually got her kids to do both even as her methods are being touted as unorthodox and bit gross. Even then too, her process has gone on to become a viral sensation on the net. The teacher Donna Gil Allen from Gray’s Creek, North Carolina shared a unique experiment she performed in class to teach kids the importance of washing hands. She even achieved it in one go.

1The gross but viral experiment

Donna herself says that it is a gross experiment but an extremely cool one. She taught the children through the example of bread how germs spread. She used three pieces of bread. Then in front of the kids she put a piece of bread in a bag with gloves on and labeled it controlled. After that she washed her hands and put another piece of bread in a bag and labeled it clean. A third piece of bread she passed around and let all kids touch it before putting it in a bag and labeling it dirty. She then says "Watch how the bread changes over time due to germs. It is so cool and a great way to teach the importance of hand washing".

2This is the reason why you have to wash your hands

The control bread and the one that had been handled by washed hands displayed signs of mold. The one that had been handled by dirty hands was covered with mould. This showed how much germs was present on the kid’s hands. Her experiment of teaching kids to wash hands has since gone viral and even praised online where several people called it a brilliant idea on how to teach kids about the presence of germs. It could also be used in science class and control studies.

3Washing hands can prevent viruses and disease

Many commenter’s gave their own suggestions that the experiment should also be shown to adults who don’t take personal hygiene seriously least of all teach it to their kids. Several commenterss even tagged those who they knew didn’t wash their hands.

4Washing hands needs to be cultivated as a habit

The importance of washing hands should be taught to kids at a young age so that it cultivates as a habit rather than make it a good one. In today’s world of rampant diseases and viruses attacking people so easily, this teacher is actually doing humanity a service.
