The entire dog park was strewn with poison and large amounts at that. The tragic fact was that the poison was placed in such a way that it was extremely difficult for dogs to avoid it. The devious and disgusting culprit had scattered piles and piles of bread all around the park. The bread had been laced with rat poison pellets. One wonders what evil and malicious mind could have contemplated and cooked up such an evil scheme.

In fact, this wasn’t the first incident in Preston Park. In 2015, a similar incident rocked Brighton and Hove where such poisonous substances cropped up in various parks in the area with four dogs reported dead.

When one dog owner informed the police department, they immediately responded taking to social media to warn residents to remain vigilant and seek immediate help if any dog has consumed poison.
The departments warning said “Warning for dog walkers in #PrestonPark, #Brighton. We have received a call this morning that multiple piles of bread with rat poison were found.
If you are concerned that your dog may have consumed any poison The RSPCA have provided this advice”

The department was also good enough to issue guidelines on what to do if a dog was poisoned. If you feel your dog has consumed poison, you need to remain calm and move your dog or pet away from the poisonous source. It would be beneficial to take a sample of the toxic item by safely collecting it without harm to yourself. Never treat your pet with your own medication but rush it to a vet immediately. Pets require different dosages of medication and will not respond to medication in the same way as humans.
The dog park was located in Sussex and has many Brighton residents worried which is why many of them including the police are spreading awareness due to the nature of copy cat criminals online who could get similar ideas.

Always remember that if your pet has been poisoned, contact the vet and quarantine your pet until it is better. Animals that have been infected can also infect other animals in the vicinity and as such have to be kept in seclusion.
The horrible incident has attracted a lot of social media attention where many people worldwide have responded with disgust at how criminal and savage such an act can be. The worst part of the incident was that it occurred on Christmas day December 25th. People like Tracie Farrely were appalled at the post and commented ‘What horrible individuals. They should be made to eat it. ‘Trying to poison people’s pets. What about the poor birds, squirrels, etc. that may eat it.’
Heather and Alan Andrews lost their dog Lola to the same incident in 2015 when she had consumed rat poison strewn in vale Park in Brighton.

Tracey was of course right in saying that there are sick individuals in the world who derive pleasure in harming animals. A park is a fun place for both animals and human beings and to think one crazy lunatic would scatter poison all over it is crazy. Whenever you walk your dog in a park and find something fishy or odd that has the potential to harm animals, report it to the authorities. Make the community aware of it too so that dogs in your area are safe.

Such demented lunatics responsible for the poison in the dog park should be caught and punished as criminals because this was a crime and a heinous one at that. Share this with friends and relatives who have pets so that more people are aware of such threats to pets in parks and public areas.
