The cold conditions have become so severe in North America that it has smashed many records. At many places, the records are being broken for the coldest temperature ever recorded. The conditions are such that Montreal was colder than North Pole last week. Montreal recorded minimum temperature of -23 degrees Celsius which is actually colder than Mars. And, if the forecasts are to be believed, the cold conditions will exacerbate further in the coming days. The situation is so bad that temperatures in northeastern part of the United States recorded at -37 degrees Celsius. Some parts of Canada were even colder than that.

As per reports, sharks are also dying because of freezing cold. Bodies of two sharks were washed ashore of Cape Cod Bay on Saturday. As per the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, the sharks were likely “stranded on the shore due to cold shock” and died. “These sharks were most likely moving to the south with the warmer water and got caught in the hook of Cape Cod,” the conservancy said.

The cold conditions have reached such level that the mighty Niagara Falls have frozen solid. Visitors are motivating themselves to brave the testing conditions just for the sake of taking snap of the beautifully frozen Niagara Falls. The outdoor New Year’s Eve festivities were cancelled in Ontario due to extreme cold weather warnings. Clearly, the temperatures across North America is beyond what is called normal. Canadians are somewhat prepared for the extreme conditions but people living in South Carolina are surely not. They had to suffer freezing rain event which closed down the bridges which were later de-iced.

In another sad incident, a dog was found dead frozen to death on a front porch in Toledo. The Humane Society is investigating the matter as the owner claimed that he had left the dog inside the flat with plenty of food when he was away from his home for some days. “I don’t know how long she was out there,” Megan Brown, a cruelty investigator with the humane society, said. “She was frozen solid.” It is always advisable to keep your pets inside the home in these extreme weather conditions.

In another incident, a resident of Ontario informed on Twitter that she heard a gunshot-like sound in first account but later found that one of the window glass in the house was left broken due to cold temperatures. The conditions are freezing and also there has been reports of record snowfalls from many places as well.

Erie city in Pennsylvania received a staggering 62.9 inches of snow in a matter of two days. The snowfall has already broken the past records. The troops of Pensylvania National Guard was put on high alert as the crews were not able to remove the snow fast enough. The conditions worsened to such a level that roads also became dangerous and impossible to pass on. There was snow emergency announced in the city of Erie.

The records are being smashed in Canada as its Okanagan Valley is soon going to become the place with highest snowfall. As per reports, the valley has already received double the amount of snow that it usually gets in a month. On top of it, more snow is in forecast in immediate future.

Meanwhile, in Edmonton, the cold conditions are such that cars are being abandoned after the freezing temperatures causing them serious damages. The cars have been stalled and are facing problems in starting. As per the Canadian Automobile Association, the waiting time for a tow truck was nearly 17 hours last Thursday.

The conditions are such that frostbite warning and extreme weather alerts have already been issued across parts of the United States and Canada. But, there are few people who are having fun in these conditions as well. Researchers at the Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire have posted a video on Facebook showing a weather observer pouring hot boiling water from a kettle into the open air. As they pour water into the air, the extreme cold conditions turned the water into snow. The video is shown below:
