Whether you are talking about the comic book series, the show or even the video game, one thing is certain: "The Walking Dead" has gained an enormous popularity over the years. So it's no wonder that the fans around the world have come up with all sorts of theories about how their favorite show might end. But before delving into the most popular theories out there, we are going to give you a fair warning: This article will contain spoilers for all seven seasons. With that being said, let's begin our countdown for the top 10 theories about how "The Walking Dead" might end.
With all the bloodbath that we've seen in the show so far, it's hard to imagine that Rick's group will ever get some time off anytime soon. After all, we are talking about the seven seasons of different groups fighting each other. And judging by Season 8 trailer, the show will continue to go down that very same path. With all of this in mind, it's safe to say that walkers are not the enemy here - humans are. So even if there is a cure, humans will always find a reason to fight amongst themselves. Whether it's because supplies, guns or just a supremacy - there will always be some conflict. Not to mention that the so-called "happy ending" would be such a boring way to conclude the otherwise amazing series.

Given how unpredictable this show is, some fans have come up with the most unexpected ending. According to this theory, there's a high possibility that The Walkers will evolve. Even though it doesn't seem like this could happen anytime soon given the current condition walkers are in, who is to say that the evolution of their brain won't be possible at some point in the future? But what will they do with it? Maybe they'll use it to negotiate some kind of a peace treaty with humans. Or worse, they could form a strategy to eliminate the humans once and for all. Either way, this ending would be far better than the one including finding the cure for the virus.

In a nutshell, this theory suggests that Carl is telling the story of "The Walking Dead" as an old man so that all events we've seen are nothing more than a series of flashbacks. And no matter how wild this theory might seem to be, it would explain a couple of things. It would explain why Carl has survived this long despite all the crazy stuff he has been through and also why Rick is presented as such a fierce hero. On top of that, some eagle-eyed fans noticed that Carl scenes are more detailed than the ones featuring other characters. But in our opinion, this theory is too much of a stretch, and it is the least likely to come true.

The fact that Rick survived the zombie outbreak despite being in the coma is one of the biggest mysteries in "The Walking Dead." So fans have come up with the theory that Rick is actually immune to the virus because he is already infected. Of course, not in the same way as the others who turn into Walkers when they die, but in the way that allowed him to maintain some of the traits they possess. But in our opinion, this theory is far too complicated to be a real thing. So we guess that the writers will come up with a little bit simpler, but still very exciting solution to end the show as massive as "The Walking Dead."

While this theory seems plausible and will actually represent a very logical way to end the show, there is a downside to it. Because for this theory to be proven, someone born after the apocalypse would have to die, and the most likely candidate is nonother than Judith. Also, there is another weakness. If you are caught up with "The Walking Dead" Season 8, you now that Judith won't die anytime soon because we see her as a young girl in a flash forward.

Despite being anti-climactic given the narrative "The Walking Dead" has followed over the course of the years, this theory is actually rather popular amongst the fans. It suggests that Rick and the group will get tired of fighting zombies so they will find an island to inhabit and that's where they will settle down to live happily ever after. But in our opinion, this idea seems too peaceful, so there's no way that the show will end this way.

In case you haven't noticed walkers has changed a lot since the first season. At first, they were somewhat in good shape, and now it seems like they are decomposing. So if this theory is to be believed all zombies will die out and humans will repopulate the world without a threat of being infected. But here's the catch: This will most likely lead to a massive civil war between the remaining survivors. Now, this is the theory we actually believe in because not only will it give "The Walking Dead" an epic ending, but it will also be in line with the central idea that humans are far more bigger threat than Walkers will ever be.

This theory states that the whole story of "The Walking Dead" is happening in Rick's mind while he is in a coma. And if it seems like too much for you, just wait because there is more. If this theory is to be believed, all the people Rick encountered throughout the series are hospital staff. So Hershell could be his doctor, Maggie, a nurse, and Father Gabriel, well, a priest. Crazy, right? But one thing is certain: this ending would make the fans angry. Luckily, Robert Kirkman, a creator of the series, already shut down this theory in a tweet, years ago.

Given the fact that "The Walking Dead" is basically the story of Rick Grimes, it makes sense that the show will end with his death. And if we had to guess how will he die, Rick sacrificing himself to save Carl and Judith seems like a good way to finish his character arc and the story for that matter.

If the U.S. is the only country infected, then there's a high chance that European troops would come in the end to exterminate the remaining population including Rick and the group to stop the virus from spreading, and later they could repopulate the country. Although this theory might seem dark and cruel, "The Walking Dead" proved itself to be the show where even something as gruesome as can easily happen.
