The rise in populations leads to the problem of overcrowding all over the places. In such a scenario, there are very few places where little or no people living. It is not that these places have not been discovered. They are but there are reasons behind less habitation at these places. Some of these places have harshest of climates which discourages people to start living there.

1The glacier town of La Rinconada, Peru

The town of La Rinconada in Peru is located at the base of a glacier which is three miles above the sea level. The town holds the record of being the highest human habitat. Almost 50,000 people live in the town. The place is very close to the wild west where there is no laws and police in place.

2Longyearbyen, Norway

Longyearbyen town in Norway is known for its strange rules. It is one of the largest northernmost settlements. It has a population of little over a thousand. It is illegal to bury the dead at this place. The permafrost on the ground will not let the dead to decay. Hence, it will consume a lot of area on the ground. It is also not allowed to be homeless in this town. Another strange rule is that nobody is allowed to get out of the town without carrying weapon.

3Adak, Alaska

The town of Adak in Alaska has a little over a two hundred residents. The town has a strange slogan of “where the winds blow and friendships grow”. They came out this slogan to encourage people from moving there but it did not happen. There is no problem with the winds, it gusts up to about 120 miles per hour. But, the reason people avoid living there is because the place was once a US naval base.

4Supai Village the Indian Preservation

Supai village is located in Arizona. Only almost a little over two hundred people live at this village. It is one of the rarest Indian preservations in America. The only way to get to this place is by helicopter trip or by eight mile hike.

Palmerston Island is a very small diamond-shaped island in the Pacific Ocean. It is made up of relatively smaller islands which in totality takes a shape of a diamond. Only 62 people live on this island and you can only travel to this island by boat.

Villa Las Estrellas is a small village located in Chile. The place is more of a research center rather than a home. The island has only two hundred residents and is located only 70 miles away from the coast of Antarctica. It has a very harsh climate.

7The Amundsen Scott South Pole Station

There is only one full day, and one full night at the South Pole. Once the sun come out, it stays for six months and rest six months of the year are dark. There is literally no residents but almost two hundred researchers live there. The temperature can reach a low of minus 90 degrees.

Changtang in Tibet is also known as the roof of the world. It is two and a half miles above the sea level. It is also second largest nature reserves in the world. There are few hundred thousand people live at this place.

Oymyakon which is located in Russia is the coldest place on earth. The temperatures go down to minus 90 degrees at this place. It was happened in 1930s. The town is located only a few hundred miles away from Arctic Circle. There are about 500 people who live at this place.

Ittoqqortoormiit is a small and remote settlement in Greenland. There are about 450 people who live there. It is said that the settlement is frozen for almost nine months of the year. The area is also having frightening wildlife as animals like polar bears and humpback whales can be found.
