The story lines are vast and varied, while some are based on real-life encounters, others are supernatural scares and obviously, there has to be a re-emergence of a classic bone chilling character here and there. The first instalment of this horror movie was a surprise hit in 2008, but somehow it’s still not given its due credit as a “good” horror movie besides being freaky scary especially in some well-directed scenes. Even though the parting lines of the movie was an ingenious tease or (some can call it a threat even!). There was a hopeful possibility of a second part but it took nearly a decade for the movie to hit production. Thankfully the team will remain the same with original director Johannes Roberts and writer Bryan Bertino in the team.
This new movie will reportedly take place in the same environment where the first movie left, yes that creepy trailer park in the middle of a nowhere. The release date is March 2018.

Screenwriter Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have been on a high curve since their winning 2005 MTV film challenge by posing an indie movie “Greenlight”. Their next script was good enough for paramount to purchase it outright with a blind-write-direct deal which is an awesome feat for any newbie directors. Though the plot details are carefully guarded, the array of Hollywood A-listers like Emily Blunt and John Krasinski in the cast can give us an idea of the production value. The release is slated for April 2018.

It’s true that over the years the production house of Blumhouse has created some of horrors biggest franchises, but their standalone movies were the real surprise hits, both “Split” by M Night Shyamalan and “Get out “ By Jordan Peele were smashing hits, the studio would really expect the same with truth or dare-a sure shot creep fest.
Well just to give you a snippet, a college student gets wrapped up in the supernatural version of the titular game in Mexico and what’s best, brings all her creepy festivities back home with her. Lucy hale of pretty little liar’s fame will be the protagonist here. Release date 13th 2018.

No one can contest that director Steven Soderbergh has an enviable work resume and is again going to shock us with presenting a horror movie shot entirely using his iPhone which makes the movie grittier, spookier and much more thrilling to conceptualize. He therefore rightfully calls this project, Unsane.
The story follows a woman who is committed in a mental asylum and has to face her worst fears. Soderbergh brings a stellar cast of Saturday night live Alum Jay Pharoh, Claire Foy, Juno Temple and Amy Irving. Release date 23rd match 2018.

In 2016, the ending of The Purge –Election year, which was already the third installment of the franchise hinted quite clearly to the wrapping up of the series for good but thanks to the huge fan base which the movie had created over the years, it managed to rake in a moolah of $315 million worldwide, therefore a sequel had to be coming. Creator James Demonaco, as the title suggests will take viewers to the beginning of the phenomenon. This movie depicts how authority conceives upon this sociological theory that vents out aggression for one night and one isolated community fails to contain it within the planned boundaries as it spreads all across the nation. Well, this joint American-Chinese production has kept its plot closely guarded unless we hazard our guess that it’s based on a 1997 novel of deep terror and Meg actually is short for Megalodon, which is a giant prehistoric shark. The international cast of the movie will obviously portray a deep sea research team that comes too close for comfort with this terrifying creature and then their submersible craft is disabled!!!
Jason Statham heads this crew as a navy captain and deep sea diver with Rainn Wilson and Ruby rose of orange is the new black fame. As an excellent supporting cast. Li Bingbing is the Chinese leader who has more screen space here than her last Hollywood ventures like Resident Evil and Transformers. This shark story is waiting with a punch or shall we say a bite on 10th August 2018.

Among horror movies of 2018, Veteran TV director Sylvain White gets a third chance at making a feature film with a scary adaptation of the most famous internet memes of all time – The Slender Man. While not much is known about the plot of the movie, this creepy internet meme has pretty good potential to gives us all the jeepers. Since 2009 the slender man has stalked the internet, when a Photoshop contest winner Eric Knudsen created this eerily tall thin faceless man who stalks hapless children, gets full credits in this movie… surely even he didn’t anticipate so much fame when he set out to create his slender man! Writer/director Lenny Abrahamson made a big name for himself in Ireland before making a lasting appearance in Hollywood with his maiden production the “Room” which broke all the charts and was nominated for all the prestigious awards despite its limited release in US. In fact, Lead Brie Larson actually bagged the best Actress award for the movie. Now he has focused his attention to this 2009 Sarah Water’s Novel the “The Little Strangers”
The plot is very interesting, placed in a post-WWII dystopian world; a doctor has to deal with a strange family living with a malevolent ghost while he revisits the house where his mother used to work as a maid. The stellar cast includes Ruth Wilson, Domnhall Gleason and Will Poulter. This movie would be one to watch out for releasing on 31 August 2018.

The remake of 1922 Seminal classic is really an ambitious project for the director Robert Eggers who was credited for the “the Witch” as the scariest movie of 2015. Egger has the gift to create a dense atmosphere in his movies which would help him with this story as well. Though he himself is in awe of the greatest horror movie of all times himself, he would keep his version as a mark of respect and tribute to the original one. Release date, not scheduled.

After the smash hit Annabelle, another horror movie which would effectively make it officially a conjuring universe franchise is “The Nun”: This franchise has made worldwide business of $1billion. So now there is another prequel story of the terrifying nun “Valak” of conjuring 2 fame and ready to hit the screens on 13th July 2018.
The story reels around a young nun at a suffocating abbey in Romania who later commits suicide. Together with a priest who also had a haunted past, a novitiate on the threshold of final vows is sent to the site by the Vatican to investigate. They uncover the unholy secrets and finally confront a malevolent force. Taissa Farmiga (the younger sister of Vera) has been cast along with Bonnie Aarons, who would be reliving her role as the demonic nun. Screenwriter remains the same for all the franchise movies- Gary Dauberman.

Don’t be fooled by its Harry Potter type plot line including a 10-year-old boy moving in with his uncle in a creepy mansion with secret passageways. It’s revealed that his uncle is actually a warlord and lives next door to a powerful witch with the house itself as a conduit for black magic rituals. The plot has been inspired by a 1973 gothic horror novel with the titular name.
Eli Roth will direct this spookfest which will include Kyle MacLachlan along with Cate Blanchett, Jack Black and Renee Elise Goldsberry. Eric Kripke is the scribe for all things timeless and supernatural and as all of us waiting for this gore fest to be released on 21st September 2018.

This is an absolute brutal portrayal of a terror true to Stephen King style genre. Writer/director Pascal Laugier famous for his 2008 disturbing movie The Martyrs has taken on the helms of this movie as well. Starring Mylene Farmer, who is a famous French musician, but is caught in a horrifying experiencing of murderous intrusion in her house and she somehow has to survive along with her 2 daughters. Sixteen years later, when the family reunites at the house, strange things start happening again. The film co-stars Taylor Hickson and Emilia Jones as the younger version of the 2 sisters. Release date April 2018.

After all, the traditional horror premises here comes a tech-based horror story in which a blind woman has her sights restored by a pair of high-tech glasses, which allows her to see anything! Further complicating the case for her is the fact that the glass makes no distinction between natural or supernatural forms as gradually the lurking entities start aiming for her.
According to the promotional site the movie might be silent one or with very limited dialogues which would create a more involving and creepy experience keeping the first person viewpoint at the focus. Director Steven Aguilera has a created super scary trailer already and it would be no surprise if this one is a smash hit. Release date, 15th October 2018.

Although recently remakes or reboots of classic horror movies have all bombed majorly but this one might be a saver because of the fantastic plot itself, which according to the original creator Carpenter himself is simply awesome! In fact, this won’t be a remake but a sequel to the first story, which would be continued in a much-grounded manner.
Laurie has a final confrontation with the masked figure Michael Myers who has haunted her since the first Halloween night 40 years ago. Release date 19th October 2018.

Talk about “talent pooling” well, among horror movies of 2018, this movie has it all. This is a World War II-set horror flick coming from J.J Abrams Bad Robot Company. Directed by Julius Avery and scripted by Billy Ray the movie has a very catchy plot line. Set on the eve of the D Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out crucial missions for successful invasion but as they approach this small Nazi-occupied village they realize they have more than Germans to fear from! Release date 26th October 2018.
