One of the most hilarious of ironies has just gone viral. A mother has just posted a picture of her baby clutching the very implant that was supposed to prevent her from getting pregnant. It shows, Baby Dexter defied all odds and was created even though he wasn’t meant to be, good for you little fellow!!
The comical photo showing the newborn clutching the mirena device has gone viral. The implant was recovered by attending surgeons who performed a C section on Helen. Baby Dexter was born a healthy 9 lbs 1 oz, Mirena implant be damned.
In August 2016, Lucy Hellein was fitted with the Mirena implant, a device that was supposed to vent her from getting pregnant. In December, she found that she was pregnant with Dexter and the implant hadn’t worked. It was an unplanned pregnancy but thankfully Lucy brought the little guy into this world. Now she says she couldn’t imagine life without him.

Lucy said that this was her third mirena implant and although the earlier two worked well, the third failed miserably. Her ultrasound confirmed she was 18 weeks pregnant but the mirena device was nowhere to be found. Her OB assumed it had fallen out but she didn’t think so.
It seems Dexter who was due on May 4th was meant to be where even her doctor remarked. ‘The force was strong with this one’. As for Lucy, ‘Dexter was definitely meant to be. His original due date was May 4th and even the doctor said ‘Although he wasn’t planned, my family and I feel incredibly blessed.’ That’s exactly how she feels now.

Just moments after he was born, she photographed the newborn clutching the mirena implant with a hilarious caption “MIRENA FAIL. The post went viral with 70,000 shares. Incidentally for those wondering if Lucy pushed Dexter out through C section, the answer is NO!! He was a scheduled C section although she didn’t plan it that way. Her earlier daughter was delivered through an emergency C section and so she didn’t want to risk going through another c section.

The mirena implant is small T shaped IUS device that is implanted into a females womb to be used as a form of contraception. It needs to be implanted by a trained medical; practioner. The device releases the hormone progestogen into the womb which lines the cervix with mucus preventing the sperm from reaching an egg. Even if it does, the hormone thins down the lining of the womb making it difficult for fertilization. It can be removed at any time. It is supposed to last up to five years and is regarded as 99% effective.
So much for the contraceptive device whose epic fail was captured with the newborn clutching the mirena implant. If it was 99% effective, well!! In Lucy’s case the 1% should now be named a Dexter. We wish this guy the best of a great life.
