Top 10 Happiest Countries In The World: Norway, Denmark And Iceland At Top Positions

The happiness in a country is considered to be a good parameter to judge its success. As per the latest study, countries like Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Sweden are happiest in the world. The list of the happiest countries in the world had 156 countries in total.

The study considered the parameters like per capita gross domestic product, healthy years of life expectancy, trust and perceived freedom to make life choices were taken into consideration.

1Norway

Norway tops the chart of happiest country in the world. One of the driving factors was per capita income of $62,510 per year. The country has a good balance of prosperity, and social capital, meaning a high degree of trust in a society, low inequality and confidence in government. The country scores good on the parameters of caring, freedom, generosity, honesty, health, income and good governance.

2Denmark

The country boasts of a per capita income of almost $61,000 per year. Minimum wages in Denmark are around $20 per hour. The Danish unions have strong workers' rights. As far as the popular belief goes, money is not as important as social life in Denmark.

One of the hallmarks of the country is that the Danish society doesn’t judge other people’s lives. There is also an encouraging life expectancy figures as Danes on average live 80 years. Danes have the strong belief in their government and they perceive it less corrupt.

3Iceland

Iceland is at the third spot in the world’s happiest countries list. It offers relatively low-income tax, free health care and free higher education to its citizens. The island nation has also been hailed as the most peaceful nation on Earth. The per capita income of Iceland is $52,490 per year. The percentage of the population who report having someone to count on in times of trouble is the highest in Iceland or 99 percent.

4Switzerland

The per capita income in Switzerland is $63,660 per year. It is considered one of happiest countries in the world as there is an absence of corruption and people have good faith in the government. It has a good life expectancy of 83.20 years. The job satisfaction in the country is very encouraging as people have less fear in the jobs. Professionals in Switzerland are highly paid. Social support and generosity are the paramount features of the country.

5Finland

Finland was ranked at fifth position in the list of world’s happiest countries. Finland has per capita income of $43,400 per year. The Europe’s eighth largest country has also been ranked among the countries with the highest quality of life and it also features among the most peaceful nations of the world. The country has a healthy life expectancy of 80 years. It also did well on the parameters such as freedom to make life choices, generosity, and trust.

6Netherlands

Netherlands is one of Europe’s best countries. As per a study, 88 percent of Dutch people say that they are happy. Netherlands scores well on feelings of belongingness, companionship, love, and warmth. Dutch people make time for family and friends. They aim for healthy habits such as daily exercises and a well-balanced diet. The per capita income of Netherlands is $50,320 per year. The life expectancy is 81 years.

Canada is 7th on the list of world’s happiest countries. The country has a very good life expectancy of 83 years. The country is known for its laidback lifestyle and exquisite scenery. Canada’s per capita income is $43,420 per year. Canada did well on the parameters of freedom to make life choices, generosity, and trust. "It's the human things that matter. If the riches make it harder to have frequent and trustworthy relationships between people, is it worth it?'' asked John Helliwell, the lead author of the report and an economist at the University of British Columbia.

8 New Zealand

The country of New Zealand is at the 8th spot on the list of world’s happiest countries. It is also considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It has marine volcanoes, one of the most scenic rail journeys, sperm whales, marvelous wines and caves lit by glow worms. The per capita income of the country is $37860 per year. It also has a healthy life expectancy of 81 years. It is one of the least corrupt countries and has the best living standards on earth.

Australia is at ninth spot on the list of world’s happiest countries. It is home to the world’s largest coral reef system and pristine beaches. The per capita income of country stands at $45,970 per year. The country has a healthy life expectancy of 84 years.
