First Product Of These Famous Companies Was Not What It Is Known For

It is astonishing to see the first product of many famous companies in the world. It is quite surprising that the first product of many famous companies were not the products it is famous for. Companies like Motorola, which is famous for products in telecommunications, had launched a different product for the first time in the market. Same goes for companies like Sony and LG. Here is the list of first products of the famous companies:

1 Motorola

Motorola had started its journey with the name of Galvin Manufacturing Corporation. In 1928, the company had launched its first product as a battery eliminator. The patent of battery eliminator was bought by Paul V Galvin from Steward Bettery Company based in Chicago. In the year 1947, Galvin Manufacturing Corporation was converted into Motorola Inc.

2 Hewlett-Packard (HP)

The first product of Hewlett-Packard was a resistance-capacitance audio oscillator. It was used to examine different sound equipments. The product was launched in the year 1938 and its name was HP model 200A. The product was manufactured in David Packard's garage in Palo Alto, California.

3 Nokia

Although Nokia started off with a single paper mill operation in the year 1865, the first gadget of Nokia was not a mobile phone but it was a car phone. Nokia's history started in 1865 when mining engineer Fredrik Idestam established a ground wood pulp mill in the town of Tampere, in southwestern Finland. Nokia had launched a car phone with the name of Mobira Senator in 1982. It weighed around 9.8 kilogram. The gadget was jointly created by two companies: Nokia and Salora. In 1984, Nokia acquired Salora, and the product was named Nokia-Mobira Oy.

4 Microsoft

Microsoft is best known for its operating system. Its operating systems are used worldwide on computers and laptops. However, the company did not launch its first product as an operating system. Its first product was PC-compatible green eye mouse. It was launched in the year 1938. It is fascinating that the company had started its journey with a small mouse.

5 Sony

Sony has created a lot of anticipation across the world for its range of products. It is famous for TV, music systems, walkmans, mobile phones, laptops, PlayStation etc. But, it is surprising to know that the company began its journey by an electric rice cooker in 1940. The cooker was built mainly of wood and it had interlocking aluminum electrode in it. Its main limitation was that sometimes the rice used to be uncooked. It was also first failure for administration and employees.

6 LG

LG (first name – Lucky Goldstar) launched its product as a radio (model A-501) in 1959. It was first electronic device for the Korean consumers. The breakthrough product paved way for the use of words like “electronics” for the first time. Later, LG became a multi-national company and sold products including TVs, music systems, mobile phones, washing machines, microwave owen etc.

7 Samsung

Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chull in 1938. Lee Byung-chull was son of a rich landlord. But, Samsung was fully established in the year 1969. Its first product was a 12-inch Black-and-White television (model- P3202) which was launched in the year 1972. The company had started the domestic sales of television in 1972.

8 Lenovo

Lenovo had first launched its product as Chinese character card. The card’s main job was to translate English language operating system into Chinese language. The product was named as legend286. Due to this product, the company was given National Award. Afterwards, Lenovo sold its computers all across the world. It also supplied many devices to other companies.

9 Apple

The first product of Apple was named as Apple 1. It was designed and assembled by Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak in the garage of Steve Jobs in 1976. Earlier, there were only a few buyers of this product. Its earlier buyers included Paul Terrell who was owner of the retail store Electronics retailer Byte. He bought 50 devices of Apple 1 and sold each one of them at a price of $666.66. After seeing its success, Jobs and Wozniak had assembled 150 more devices.

10 Dell

Dell (old name- PC’s Limited) had first made a 10 megabyte personal computer, Turbo PC in 1985 which was priced at $795. Its special features had impacted the price of expensive IBM machines. In 1988, the company had changed its name to Dell Computer Corp.
