Our minds have been programmed in such a manner by our education system that the first thing which comes to our minds when we see a blue collar worker is that he must be an uneducated person; however, it is not always correct. We are always taught that if you want to live a good life, you should study properly and get good marks so that you can get a high-paying white collar job. But on the contrary, if you don’t focus on your studies, you will end up as an uneducated person who will be doing a dirty blue-collar job.
It is rightly being said that kids learn a lot from their parents and some parents transfer their misconceptions as well in the brains of their kids, just like the woman from the store who was there with her daughter when a dirty blue collar worker walked in the store.

As that person entered the store, the 7 or 8 years old girl started staring at him because he was having some dirt on his face. The mother of the girl also saw the man and they both walked towards the exit. Then she said to her daughter that this is why she should stay in school.

The mother wanted to convey to her child that she should study in school because a person who is not educated has to work and get dirty like the man they saw in the store. However, what happened next was totally unexpected for the mother as that person decided to have a talk with her.

The so-called dirty man’s name is Andy who hails from Vancouver, Washington, and you might be surprised to know that he is a pretty qualified person. Presently, he is working with a construction company but he has worked in various capacities including as an operations medic in various combat tours. He was in no mood to take the statement of the mother lightly as it indicated that he is an uneducated person.

Andy posted the conversation as an open letter on the social media site Facebook and revealed how he enlightened the judgmental mother about his qualifications, achievements and the choices that he made in life. He also told her that he is pretty happy with what he is doing in life and why a book should not be judged by its cover.

He told the mother that he is not just a high school diploma holder but he also has a college degree along with many medical certifications. He is just a dirty educated man but judging him on the basis of his appearance is quite immature and ignorant on her part.

Andy told the mother that if she is telling her daughter to stay in school because of the tattoos that he has up and down in his arms, she is suppressing the creative side of the little girl and it will adversely affect her imaginary skills as she grows up.

Andy also told the mother that he is proud of his tattoos and artwork which have been drawn by Forrest Bateman on his body. In fact, for Andy, these tattoos are the symbols of pride that he has for his country America and for his service as a special operations medic in numerous combat tours.

He said that if she has made this statement because of the cap that he was wearing which featured Elk, she may not be able to understand it. He is the co-owner of Evergreen State Outdoors which is about living, hunting and surviving in Washington. He further said that he is proud to be a responsible gun owner and supports his rights for hunting.

He went on to tell her that joining the construction industry was his choice and he is proud of himself for contributing in building America. He also tells the mother that he enjoys his job a lot as he loves to work outdoor with his hands and he realized it after getting out of the service that he is not meant for desk jobs.

Andy makes it clear to the mother of the girl that he makes good money to support his family without any problem despite doing a job which can make him dirty. He said that these facts are enough to prove that appearance isn’t a parameter of a person’s educational qualification and intelligence.

She must have learnt to never judge a person in just one look and appearance of an individual is not a criterion for considering him/her educated or uneducated. Not everything that we have been told by the earlier generations is correct and we should update ourselves regularly as per the demand of time and situation.
