Now we come to the antihero of our topic, vitamin deficiencies!! The latest research has found that it is vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid supplements actually reduced migraines over a six month period. A joint study in neurology published in the European Journal of Neurology 2004 stated that migraines could be prevented by high doses of riboflavin or vitamin B2.

When exploring what causes a migraine, Vitamins B6 and B12 also reduced levels of homocysteine which could be produced by dysfunctional genes or gene mutations. An increase of homocysteine makes one extremely vulnerable to migraine attacks. The dosage of the vitamin depends on the genotype of the individual.

Moreover, levels of homocysteine production can be increased by some gene mutations and dysfunctions, which can make you more prone to migraine attacks. It was discovered that vitamins B6 and B12 reduce homocysteine levels. In addition, researchers found that depending on your genotype, one may need a higher or lower dose in order for it to work.
