By Nitin Bhatnagar, 22 November 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic is certainly the worst phase of our lives that we have experienced but the good thing is that slowly and steadily we have defeated this lethal virus by following the safety protocols properly and by getting vaccinated. However, it will take a good amount of time for all of us to recover from the turmoil that we have gone through in all aspects whether it was emotional, physical or financial.

The vaccination is going at a very good pace all over the world but there are still some countries where the speed of vaccination is not going on at a good speed.

1The COVID-19 vaccinations

The vaccinations for COVID-19 have been administered at a good pace in the developed countries but there are many developing and underdeveloped countries where majority of the citizens have not been vaccinated because of which they are still living under the fear of COVID-19 pandemic.

2The COVID-19 booster shots

Some developed countries are also asking their vaccinated citizens to take the COVID-19 booster shots as it will further help them in reducing the risk of COVID-19 but the World Health Organization (WHO) which is keeping an eye on the vaccination campaigns taking place all over the world is not happy with it.

3WHO Director-General's reaction

WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is very angry with some countries which are administering COVID-19 booster shots and he has went on to call it a big scam that should be stopped immediately. While these booster shots make a person more immune to the lethal virus, the WHO chief questions the sensibility of providing these shots.

4It makes no sense

The Director-General of WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus states that giving booster shots to individuals who are healthy or vaccinating children doesn't make any sense when there are many health workers and elderly around the globe who haven't got their first dose.

5To those who need it most

WHO states that it is very important for everyone on the planet to get vaccinated for which it has to be ensured that the vaccine reaches to those who needed them the most. It is being observed that the number of booster shots given all over the world are six times more than the primary doses given in the poor countries.

6Nations are not listening

As per WHO, many countries are still administering these booster shots to the vaccinated public despite the fact that the WHO has repeatedly asked them to stop it till this year end so that the vaccines can be saved for the citizens of poor nations.

7WHO Chief states

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus further said that it is not just about how many have been vaccinated, it is also about who have been vaccinated because the medical staff, senior citizens and people who are at higher risk need to be vaccinated before the booster shots are administered to the vaccinated people.

8Warning by WHO

WHO has issued a warning stating that even in those countries where a huge part of the population has been vaccinated, the medical system can still collapse if a big part of the high-risk population is still unvaccinated.

9The degree of risk

As per the findings of a British study, the risk of losing life because of virus in this pandemic is 32 times higher for a non-vaccinated person rather than for a vaccinated person. This finding is more than enough for us to understand the importance of getting vaccinated.

11Even if you are vaccinated

A considerable part of the world population has got vaccinated and majority of the governments have also given relaxation in the restrictions but it is pretty important for all of us to remain careful and don't give the virus any chance to tumble our lives once again.

12Follow safety guidelines properly

We should still follow the safety guidelines such as wearing masks when going outdoors, avoiding crowded places, washing hands regularly and using sanitizers. Following the safety protocols is the need of the hour and we should not only understand it but also follow it religiously.
