How does your face feel without makeup?. While many women prefer to apply as little as possible, there are those who prefer the whole thing. For all though, a special occasion or an event needs a tough of makeup on your face, you will look beautiful no doubt but just be careful to avoid these common makeup mistakes because they can make you look older instead.

1Go easy on the concealer

Don’t apply too much concealer because when you try to achieve a perfect matte finish, you may mistake of applying too much concealer. Too much concealer will end up settling into creases and wrinkles. With the wrong color selection and a thick layer, your wrinkles are going to be highlighted making you look older.

Makeup artists suggest avoiding thick foundations and advocate fluid ones that contain luminous particles. These will make your skin look natural and healthy without seeming that you have overloaded it. Tinted moisturizers, lightweight foundations and BB creams blend easier than a powder formula. Also, you should avoid green based products that bring out shadows but choose yellow or peach tones which will neutralize the purplish tones of your dark circles.

2You overuse mascara on the lower lashes

Mascara can enhance the edge of your eyes to reflect more expression but applying to much will divert attention to your wrinkles around your eyes instead. Thick mascara will make even the tiniest of wrinkles stand out. Mascara on the upper lashes can open up your eyes with extra oomph. But on the lower eyelashes, they can also make your eyes look spidery which is when the dark circles around your eyes can get accentuated.

3Choosing the wrong lipstick tone

Lipstick can make magic and accentuate your image. You can experiment with rich saturated colors but if you have narrow lips, avoid dark toned lipsticks because they can make your lips look even thinner. To make your lips appear fuller; just overdraw your natural lip line. Pinks and Mauves can highlight your lips making them appear fuller. Applying a swipe of lip gloss will plump them up. Always choose a lip liner that matches your lip color instead of your lipstick to avoid a dark line that makes your lips appear pursed.

4The wrong way to apply dark eyeshadow

By applying eyeshadow over the entire lid area, you might just look older. The correct way of applying eyeshadow is to dab the outer corners of the eyes. Also, avoid glittery eyeshadow that will settle into creases and wrinkles highlighting the crinkles on your eyelids. Choose a more flattering matte finish and use shimmer only for the inner corners of your eyes to get a brighter look.

5Overuse of lower lid eyeliner

Dark eyeliner to the bottom lid will make your eyes look smaller while the top liner opens them up. Harsh lines and dark colors may also make your eyelids look heavy. To counter the effect of narrow eyes, use only a light makeup eye pencil which can create openness to your image. Ideally you should apply a soft layer of gray or brown eyeliner to the top outer corner. Then blend this out for a brightening effect. This can be finished by applying mascara only to the top eyelashes.

6Applying blush to the wrong area

This is a common makeup mistake. Putting rouge on the apples of your cheeks may have been a good idea when you were young but as skin matures, you need to adapt to the skin changes. So do not choose intense and dark colors but lighter tones like peach or pink. Apply blush to the upper cheek areas and not the apples of your cheeks.

Applying blush to the apples of your cheeks will create an unflattering unnatural circle. But, applying it too far below the cheekbones can also give a sagging appearance. For a more youthful and radiant glow, apply blush lightly along the cheekbone by starting beneath the center of your eye and sweeping upwards. Do not go too close to the nose area and opt for natural mellow tones to make your face look younger. Rouge on your cheekbones gives an uplifting effect.

7Too much Highlighter on your eyebrows

Dark intense colors to highlight or enlarge your eyebrows will make you look unkempt and aged. Use lighter tones than your natural eyebrow color. Remember that over time your eyebrows become sparser which is why you should use the correct tone of highlighter. Use lip balm to groom wild eyebrows.

8Not using corrector

Dark circles are a common problem for many people and as you age the blemishes are more pronounced. Using concealer as mentioned earlier will worsen the problem. Using correcter instead will work wonders especially when you apply it on dark areas and spread it evenly and as thin as possible.

9Not shading your lip lines

A lip pencil is necessary for a good makeup to look defining your mouth outline and making it more appealing. But! Always be careful in trying to make your lips look larger by overdrawing natural lip borders. The lining should be shaded following the direction of the center of your lips or else you’ll end up with the appearance of a moustache instead.

10Powdering your face too much

Among common makeup mistakes, by covering up the oily shine on your face, you also cover up the young glow which happens when your skin reflects light. You can swap your powder for blotting tissue that will not highlight your wrinkles like makeup does. Powdering could be good for covering up some skin defects but you need to apply it in small quantities only. To rid the glistening effect of the T-zone, use rice or light mineral powder. Don’t powder around your eyes as it will make your skin look too dry. If you can’t give up the powdering habit, just dab it lightly on chin and nose.
