Wildfires have been raging across Southern California reaping a wave of destruction in their path. Many of the areas destroyed and burnt are proving to be larger than two American cities combined. The tragic fact about such fires is that they aren’t just destroying forest areas but people’s homes as well. Even businesses are being affected as towns are slowly ravaged by the fury of the flames suspending people’s lives and destroying hard earned money in the bargain.
Thousands have had to evacuate their homes to escape like Don and Julie Myers who lived in Ventura with their four sons. The fire had destroyed their home but amidst the ashes unfolded a most beautiful story that Julie shared on the Facebook page @love that matters. It is somehow that one thing that took away the sadness of the fire that ravaged their home. Don and Julie lost their home that day which as you can see was burnt down to the ground. They were soon allowed back on their property by authorities to search for belongings namely their RV and metropolitan car. Although they weren’t expecting to find anything, still they were deeply saddened that they couldn’t find their wedding ring.
Says Julie, “My wedding ring was so special to me because Don bought it for me, in 1989, when we had nothing. We returned to our home to search for it.”

However, Don continued the search for the wedding ring which he actually found along with their grandmother’s teacup. It was in the fireproof safe after all but the safe had literally become an oven for the belongings inside. That was when Don did the Unexpected. He got down on one knee and proposed to Julie. The couple didn’t just find their wedding ring in the ashes but actually rekindled their love amidst the conflagration. “When I returned, Don popped down on one knee, re-proposing; as our 5th son, Corey photographed us."
