Cartoons are a part of every generation and today, the type of beautiful animated movies made by production companies like Pixar are even watched and liked by adults as well. We all loved movies like Brave and finding Dory. Cartoons can teach us a lot about life and their creators do hide subtle hints and important truths in them. There are some priceless lessons to be learned in these animation movies some of which can have deep psychological meanings. 1 Finding Dory (2016). “We all different and we need to respect the peculiarities of others.”

This was the main message in the lovable film Finding Dory where the main character was a cute lagoon fish named Dory and her forgetful nature. She dreams of trying to find her family but just can’t recall where they are. Dory was born with a condition of memory blackouts and one of the lessons adults can give their kids about this film is to accept people the way they are.

2The Good Dinosaur (2015). “Sincere friendship is a superpower!’

The movie “the Good Dinosaur” wasn’t just about the friendship between the large dino and the small boy, it was about the world itself and how nature conquered civilization and not the opposite. While it was fun for the children, it gave adults something to think about especially the fears of Arlo the dinosaur and how he struggled to overcome the true power of friendship.

3Inside Out (2015). “Don’t be afraid of your emotions.”

This movie was one of the most powerful animations that Pixar made and it also went on to meet with approval by psychotherapists. Riley the main character is a young girl coming to terms with her emotions and trying to cope with them. Emotions such as joy, sadness, anger, fear and disgust. This has a message for both children and adults alike to understand the normal experience of various emotions and how we need to manage them and control them.

4Brave (2012). “Put stereotypes aside, and be yourself.”

Brave was a beautiful movie about courage. The dramatic story about the flaming red Scottish Princess Merida and her relationship with her mother is a reminder that no one should comply with the expectations of others. Merida’s mother has planned her life and marriage down to the last detail teaches us how girls need not be princesses if they love their crazy adventures and wish to do their own thing. Just be yourself.

5UP (2009). “It’s never too late to fulfill your dream.”

Up was a sad and emotional movie about loneliness in old age. Carl just can’t get over his late wife and the adventures they shared and dreamed about together. He ultimately decides to go on a travel alone in his flying house when a funny and weird boy scout makes him change his plans. The movie teaches us that even in old age we don’t really need fairy tales and we can fulfill our dreams in reality.

6WALL-E (2008). “We are responsible for our planet.”

Who can forget this one that stole the hearts of many? This movie was not only about deep emotions and feelings. It was about responsibilities where WALL-E teaches us how we should be responsible for the earth that we are damaging. It was showing us the possible future of our planet if we just keep on bleeding its resources dry.

7Ratatouille (2007). “Follow your dream, even when they say you are not worth it.”

This was an incredible movie where the rat Remy dreams on becoming a chef and yet even though no one believes him, he pursues his dream regardless. The movie teaches us that if you possess the courage to pursue your dreams and goals, then your looks and background isn’t important.

8Cars (2006) “Don’t forget those who always believed in you.”

Cars was another beautiful movie that we fell in love with. It was about the character Lightning McQueen who is the typical confident winning character who learns a lesson in life that we should not underestimate the importance of a team in achieving combined goals. His friends, fans, teachers and colleagues all take part to help him win by reaching the finish line first.

9The Incredibles (2004). “We are not ourselves if we hide our talents.”

This was an entertaining movie centered around a family who try to look ordinary but are always depressed at the fact they have to conceal their superpowers. The message of the movies is that we are gifted with talents and skills which are part of our personality so we should use them and not hide them. By doing so we reject ourselves.

10Finding Nemo (2003). “Everyone has the right to make mistakes and follow their own path.”

Everybody loved this movie about Marlin the protective father who in protecting his son Nemo from the big wide world loses him instead. It is a message that parents should realize, that children need our support and help to learn about the outside world, not shy away from it.

11Monsters, Inc. (2001). “Those who are the scariest are usually scared themselves.”

In this Pixar animated movie, the goal of the monsters was to try and scare all children in the world. However, intimidation is a bad weapon to be utilized for any flourishing society and the heroes of the story learn this too. They soon realize that respect, mutual understanding and benevolence are stronger than fear so being a monster won’t get you anywhere.

12Toy Story (1995). “Time moves on, but real friendship and devotion last forever.”

This was and still remains a classic movie about the importance of friendship. It was the story of how toys live their own lives when no one watches them. The movie brings out the emotions of human bonding, friendship, jealousy and homesickness. The toys are pretty much like all of us and teach us how we want to be loved and cared for just like the toys want that too.
