In a weird but unfortunate incident, a baby born with organs outside her body in Wales has been through a traumatic ordeal only to survive in the end. The little thing had to be wrapped constantly in cling film to keep her body warm and free from infection. Her condition was so rare that even her mother wasn’t allowed to hold her although she was allowed a 5-second chance to cuddle her baby daughter. Ava Rose Nightingale was born on May 21st at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with an extremely rare condition called gastroschisis that caused her intestines to grow outside her body. At one point of time, she also forgot how to breathe scaring doctors who administered emergency procedures to stabilize her.
The mother of the baby Chloe Walters 21 who works as a dairy farmer exclaimed how the entire incident was an extremely scary one for her. She did not realize that her baby’s abdominal wall had not formed before birth. 'It was such a scary experience. They told me I wouldn't be able to hold her but I was so upset I got to for five seconds.' She said.During her pre-delivery scan, she was shown certain anomalies that looked like loops around her. Ava spent almost 7 weeks in the hospital after having undergone a 3-hour operation that required administration of oxygen. She also received intravenous feed through her head for which her entire head had to be shaved. Ava is safe with her parents today but not before doctors and Chloe went through a harrowing experience where she almost died.

According to Ava’s mother Chloe 21, her organs growing outside her stomach looked like red blobs of flesh. They were even bigger than her. Doctors had decided to perform surgery to correct the anomaly although they also warned Chloe it would be a huge risk that could be fatal for the baby. That had left Chloe in tears but there were no options left. 'Of course, they had to tell me but it was really scary having to sign her life away just after she was born. 'Handing her over was really hard”.

Before the operation, Ava was wrapped in Clingfilm which is when the photos were taken of her. It was the cling film that had protected her from infection. Chloe never really wanted to see the photo as she felt heartbroken. Chloe was allowed to cuddle her baby for 5 seconds before doctors took her in for surgery.

Once the surgeons had inserted her organs back into her body successfully; Ava was put on oxygen as she even forgot how to breathe because of the morphine from the operation. Her intravenous had to be inserted through her head. After 14 days she was gradually introduced to milk. Ava spent 7 weeks in hospital and returned home to her family in June where she now stays safe and free from danger. Both her parents Chloe and Scott Nightingale 23 are happy and thankful she is alive.

Ava was diagnosed with gastroschisis after doctors discovered anomalies in her pre-delivery ultrasound scan 'It was really upsetting. I was so excited about seeing her but when they told me there might be a problem it was so scary.’ What made matters worse was the fact that Chloe also had an anterior placenta which forms on the front wall of the womb. This was the reason why she never even felt movement during pregnancy.

The condition of gastroschisis can occur in boys and mothers under 20 years of age. Chloe was also told that the chances of her baby being stillborn were higher at 39 weeks and four days and she would most probably be going into labor at 32 weeks. Thankfully little Ava the baby with organs outside her body survived this horrible ordeal and is now with her mom and dad fit and healthy.
