9 Child-Stars We Used to Adore – But Where Are They Now?

By Nenad Dojcinovski, 29 October 2017

The whole Disney concept is directly associated with fun, joy and happy endings. But that’s only because everything is going according to the script.

Real life is different, and stories often lack the happy ending that we all look forward to. The same goes for the Disney stars we’re used to adore as kids. Some of them used the experience to jump-start their successful careers in acting.

But others were not so lucky. The list you’re about to see is as surprising as it gets. We were all blown-away after reading #6, and you will be as well!

1Macaulay Culkin

Who would've thought that the kid from Home Alone will end up doing drugs, instead of becoming one of the best actors of today? Macaulay Culkin had it all! He was funny, he was cute and people loved him. But what happened to the kid who had Michael Jackson as his friend?

Well, maybe we should blame his father for his decision to quit acting at age of 14. According to Culkin, his father was very controlling and money was his priority.

Cuklin was able to keep his net worth for himself after his parents divorced. But his father stopped any kind of communication with him since he couldn’t get his hands on those $11 million.

But things went from bad to worse when Culkin and his girlfriend Mila Kunis broke up. His drug addiction got the best of him, and he never returned to acting. It looks like he’s sober now, but he never really managed to live up to the hype.

2Jodie Sweetin

We all remember the sweet little girl from Full House sitcom. She was simply adorable as Stephanie Tanner, but her real-life story is far from perfect.

Did you know that her parents were in jail when she was born, and she was adopted by her uncle when she was only 9 months old? But that’s not even the shocking part. Things went horribly wrong when the sitcom Full House ended.

“Drugs and alcohol just sort of numbed everything. I was doing cocaine, and ecstasy, and alcohol, and all that”, she said. However, it seems like Jodie is about to have a second chance in life. She was announced as one of the celebrity competitors on Dancing With the Stars for its 22nd season. We wish you all the best Jodie!

3Abigail Breslin

Everything is going according to plan for Abigail. She started with acting when she was only three years old. She was only five years old during her second acting experience and her first film, Signs (2002).

She’s now 21 years old, and she was already nominated for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Little Miss Sunshine. Abigail currently has a first regular role in the horror-comedy Scream Queens on Fox.

4Amanda Bynes

Life is great when you have your own TV series named after you; The Amanda Show. But if that’s not enough, how about a leading role in two famous movies; Big Fat Liar and What I Like About You?

What can go wrong when you have such a perfect life? Apparently, a lot of things can go wrong and Amanda Bynes is the living proof!

She retired from acting in 2012, and she lost control of her life. From using Twitter to trash Jay-Z regarding his looks, to spending $1.4m on drugs in a matter of months.  She’s not coming back to acting, but she’s planning to pursue a career in fashion designing.

5Angus T. Jones

Millions and millions of people witnessed Jake Harper’s transformation. From a little adorable kid to a clueless teenager, Angus was lucky enough to be a part of one of the best TV shows of all time.

Two And a Half man was hilarious while Charlie Sheen was still a part of it, but we all know why he left. But what happened to Angus or Jake Harper?

After getting insanely rich (netting $300,000 per episode), he became uncomfortable with the show. He referred to himself as a "paid hypocrite" and left the show after being baptized.

6Edward Furlong

The Terminator kid was destined to become a super-star. Thanks to his work as John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day, he won the Saturn and MTV Movie Awards.

Even as a teenager, Edward was lucky enough to work with stars like Edward Norton, Jeff Bridges, and Kathy Bates. We all assumed that he will be in a position to turn down roles, and he ended up struggling to find a decent role in Hollywood.

He was arrested taking drugs like heroin and cocaine, and he’s in for serious alcoholism. He tried to overcome his addiction problems, but he’s still struggling with alcohol. Let’s just hope that his role in the hit film American History X will be a turning point in his life!

7Frankie Muniz

The genius from Malcolm in the Middle is no longer just an actor. He put his acting career on hold to try his luck as a wheel racing career. He was a part of the Atlantic Championship, but that wasn’t enough. The next career on his list was a drummer. Muniz joined the band Kingsfoil for a while but left in 2014.

He’s back to being an actor again, and it’s not too late for him. He’s only 31 years old and ready to return to his days of glory!

8Selena Gomez

We finally have someone who took a full advantage of the Disney Channel. She’s a super-star singer, actor, she’s only 25 and has a net worth of $50 million.

She used to date Justin Bieber, but that’s not what makes her famous. Selena has plenty of number one hits all over the place. The little girl from Wizard of Waverly Place is taking over the world, and we’re happy for her!

9Brandon “Bug” Hall

And last but not least we have Alfalfa Switzer from the hit movie Our Gang. The silly looking kid and his hilarious performance ended up with a Young Artist Award under his belt. Donald Trump appeared in the movie as well, but who cares. It was all about Alfalfa and his gang!

However, Brandon’s career isn’t going exactly as planned. He had troubles finding a leading role and acting projects in general. But he didn’t give up, and he certainly didn’t allow his fame to mess up his plans.

Brandon’s appearance on shows like CSI, 90210 and Criminal Minds helped him gain an international and social media fanbase. He’s using his social media presence to keep on moving forward, and hopefully, land a leading role in near future.
