Eating fast food is not advisable, by we all have guilt pleasures and like to have junk food once a week. However, we have our fears of how the food is produced in fast food kitchens, hygiene in those places.

But we are busting 7 highly believed myths about fast food that you just know.

1 McD incorruptible burger

People always believe that food that is made in industrial ways always have been treated with chemicals to make them last longer. For some reason, this gave rise to the myth of the incorruptible McDonald’s burger. It was said that McDonald’s burger doesn’t disintegrate.

However, McDonald’s Canada decided to debunk the silly rumor and said that though their burgers tend to dry out rather rotting, but it is due to the absence of moisture in the burgers during the cooking process. This was confirmed by an independent study, which confirmed that McD burgers rotted in normal humid conditions.

2 Food at sit down restaurants is healthier than at Fast food restaurant

As it goes for a common family, they think that a sit down restaurant is cleaner and has healthier food than a fast food joint where people basically inhale their food rather than civilly eating it. However a study conducted by Drexel found out that restaurant meal for an adult contains more calories than a fast food joint meal of burger, fries and cola. A full meal clocks well over 1,500 calories and more than required amount of fat and sodium content.

So think about this when you choose to eat out on weekends.

3 Taco Bell’s 35% meat in beef

Sometime back, rumor was going around that Taco Bell’s processed meat is only 35% meat and is unfit for human consumption. To quell the rumor, Taco Bell explained to public that their beef is 88% meat and 12% filler. The meat also contains some very safe chemicals like Trehalose and maltodextrin.

4 Fast food places Salads are healthy

Salads are generally considered the safest and healthiest options to choose while eating out. One may order salad from various options even at a fast food joint under the assumption of them being healthier. However, it was found that fast food salads contain more sugar, salt and fat in form of dressings and sauces. So it would be wiser to go for a burger instead of a salad at the fast food place.

5 Fast food is cheap

Most of the time, the argument that is put forth in favor of banning fast food is that it is a cheaper option to feed families instead of buying fresh ingredients and cooking at home. Hence families choose burgers, pizzas and fries over home cooked meals to save money.

Whoever Mark Bittman from NY Times found out that a McDonald’s meal costs $7 and it would cost you 28$ to feed a family of four. In its place, you can easily serve a family an entire chicken dinner at half the price at home. The only thing is fast food is convenient food, while home cooking takes up time, resources and cost of ingredients.

6 White Castle’s fake onions

White Castle is one of the oldest burger/slider joints in the US and became more famous for been featured in a movie where two guys who are high, spend the entire movie length in order to have one of their sliders. They are also known for their mini burgers which are always accompanied by onions.

Someone spread the rumor that White Castle was switching onions with cabbage pieces soaked in onion juice. The rumor got so much wind that White Castle had to address it on their website, that their products actually contain real onions.

7 Darker the coffee, the more caffeine it has

Majority of the people in the world crave for caffeine the first thing in the morning. However, it is said that the thicker, blacker coffee sold at the fast food joints like Starbucks have much more kick than a homemade coffee. However, if you are looking for stronger caffeine content, you need to buy the lightly roasted coffee beans.

As the rumor of dark coffee= high caffeine content is false, because the longer the coffee beans are roasted, the more they lose the caffeine content in them.
