Hair dressing is one tough profession and one that depends a lot on having good people skills. It also requires some great hand work and skills since people depend on them for making them look good.

Hair dressing salon is also the place to study various types of human interaction between customers and workers, workers and workers and workers and bosses. All of them mingle in a place which requires great focus and interaction at the same type.

Here are 12 most amusing confessions from the people who snip your hair and make you look like a movie star.

1 Sweeping up hair is no fun

No one finds cleaning up after others fun. Especially, if the thing is something that comes directly from a person, like hair, since they are icky, sticky (after they are wet) and tend to go everywhere.

But as the part of the job, we have to sweep the hair we cut of our customers, after every 2-3 rounds, since no customer would want sitting in other people’s hairy mess.

2 Neither is washing someone else’s hair

Have you ever washed other people’s hair? If yes, then you know the feeling of putting your hands in other people’s hair and also the feeling of kneading them while washing them.

Also washing them involves a lot of trying, to not to pull them or tug at them.

3 Freebies on job makes up for less pay

We do get lots of freebies on the job. Many companies who make cosmetics and other stuff keep giving things to our salon to give away as free samples. We also get things for discount directly from companies and we sometimes get to keep some things for free, mostly samples, but free.

4 We love some freedom to show off our skills

We love when a customer comes in, sits in our chair and tells us to give them a new look. Though we like some ideas from the customers, but we are skilled and we know how to make people look good.

And it also feels good that people trust and respect us when they give us freedom to showcase what we can do with a pair of scissors.

5 We are the first to check out a new hairdo

As employees of a business which changes quite often, we have to keep a track of the changes that comes in hairstyles. And for the benefit of our customers, we are the first people to try out new hairdos and see whether they suit on certain faces or not.

Also we are very good at giving advices on hairdos, so ask us any question regarding hair and we will give you the correct answer.

6 We love a good chatter at work

Since work can get pretty monotonous, we love a customer who loves chatting to us. We have got regulars who have been coming in for years and share every little detail of their lives with us.

This gives us insight in most of our customer’s lives and lots of gossip material. But sometimes the evidence of too much information makes us uncomfortable.

7 We all have a favorite client that we love

All of us have that one favorite client that is so impressed with our work that she waits for us and only books us for salon sessions. Also such regulars tip well.

They like the personal attention that we shower on them and all the advice and gossip we do, which makes them feel special. Even we wait for that customer because of the tips we get.

8 Getting any breaks while on shift is hard work

Hair dressing is a job which has no particular season in which customers increase. There is a constant incoming and outgoing of customers and sometimes we get so busy, it is even difficult for us to get a bite in or have some coffee.

Even a 15-minute break is sometimes difficult when you have a demanding customer who wants everything just perfect. But we power through it because of professional courtesy and tips. We can’t ask the lady to wait with half her head shampooed and half head wet, so that we can have our sandwich and coffee.

9 Better to ask about products when in chair

Sometimes salons have to push products of certain companies in order to get more and more commission and even we are tasked with this job. But customers want honest opinions about the products and if they ask us on the counter we cannot give that.

So better ask for advice on products when you are in the chair and have some privacy with us, so that we can give honest answers without getting fired.

10 We Hate hair lice

Hair lice are a big no no for us. Any customer we get with hair lice, brings the whole salon into a shut down mode. We have to clear the hair, clean ourselves and fumigate the whole salon so that no one else get any lice on them since those little goons can spread like wild fire.

11 We love our equipment

Don’t ask us to lend our equipment. It’s personal for us and it’s dear to us.

We keep our equipment in prime shape and clean it thoroughly after every use (hygiene, people) and we kind of get set with them and they become a part of us.

12 We all have our share of accidents

Yes sometimes we do get clumsy and have mini accidents.

Sometimes we use bleach without wearing gloves and have white colored hands. Same issue with dyes, sometimes we apply hair color without wearing gloves for better results and have colored hands for weeks.
